Why Siip Subscribers Rate Each Box Higher

By Siip6 min read

Siip subscribers rate 62% of the coffees in their first box as liked or loved. By their fourth box, that is 86%.

This post shows where those numbers come from, why they go up, and what else is different about a Siip subscription.

Summary
  • Subscribers like each box more, through the fourth. Liked or loved: 62%, 71%, 77%, 86%.
  • Siip learns from every coffee you rate, not only the ones it sends. A cafe cup, a supermarket bag, a friend's brew.
  • Every coffee comes with a match score and the reason for it. At a match of 80% or higher, subscribers liked or loved 79% of their coffees. Below 80%, 59%.
  • Two bags every 4 weeks from 29 independent roasters. From $18 a bag, free shipping. Skip, pause or cancel in the app.

The numbers

Bar chart: the share of coffees Siip subscribers rated liked or loved rises from 62% in box 1 to 71% in box 2, 77% in box 3 and 86% in box 4

Box Liked or loved Loved
1 62% 28%
2 71% 33%
3 77% 38%
4 86% 43%

After every coffee, the Siip app asks one question: how was it? These are the two top answers, counted for every box coffee subscribers rated between April 22 and October 4, 2026.

The share of coffees that were loved, the top answer, goes from 28% to 43%.

"Every month I'm like, oh this is better than last month."

Why it goes up

Siip learns from every coffee you drink

Most subscriptions can only learn from the bags they ship you. That is two coffees a month.

Siip comes with a free app. Scan and rate anything: the bags in your box, a flat white at a cafe, a bag from the supermarket, a cup at a friend's house. Every rating updates your taste profile, and your next box is picked from the new picture.

About half of Siip subscribers have rated a coffee that did not come in their box.

"You get more refinement so it can dial in like what you like. So I like that it's learning about you."

Jake, Siip subscriber

You see why each coffee was picked

Every coffee Siip picks has a match score and a short explanation of why it fits you. You see your first two coffees, and why they were picked, before you pay.

The score holds up. Subscribers liked or loved 79% of coffees with a match of 80% or higher, and 59% of coffees below that.

A low rating helps too

Nobody likes every coffee. A low rating is as useful as a high one, because it tells Siip what to steer away from.

Your first box is just the start

62% is not 100%. The first box is picked from your answers in a 60-second quiz and any coffees you have already rated in the app, and about 4 in 10 first-box coffees are not rated liked or loved.

We would rather say that up front. Rate both bags, including the one you did not enjoy, and the second box is picked with more to go on.

What else is different

Real roasters, in their own bags. Your coffee comes from 29 independent roasters, including Onyx Coffee Lab, Equator Coffees, George Howell Coffee and Joe Coffee. Each box has two different coffees, so you can taste them side by side.

"It's been really helpful to learn about new roasters I would have never known about otherwise."

Chris, Siip subscriber

You know where it comes from. The app shows where each coffee was grown and, where the roaster shares it, the farm and the people behind it.

"I really love to know where everything is coming from, how they're doing it."

Darius, Siip subscriber

It is good for the people who grow it. Siip picks roasters for their long-standing relationships with the farmers they buy from. For every bag you receive, Siip donates to Enveritas, a nonprofit that visits more than 100,000 coffee farms a year. More on our commitments page.

You stay in control. Skip a box if you still have coffee, pause while you are away, or cancel. It takes a few taps in the app, and there is no minimum term.

The price is simple. You pick a tier, and Siip picks the coffee.

Tier Price per bag A box of two bags
Classic $18 $36
Craft $24 $48
Reserve $30 $60

Shipping is free. A box makes about 30 to 40 cups, so a Classic box works out to roughly $1 a cup. New subscribers get 20% off their first 2 months.

What subscribers say

"It's definitely become one of the favorite things I receive every month."

Chris, Siip subscriber

"I didn't realize you guys were so heavy on the growers and like where the coffee's coming from."

Jake, Siip subscriber

"The taste matching is surprisingly accurate, and definitely gets better every time I rate a new coffee. I already found a few favorites I wouldn't have picked on my own."

SDTJ1990, App Store review, April 2026

"The algorithm seems to be getting better as they build, the last couple coffees it recommended were spot on."

How we measured

  • Source. Ratings that subscribers gave in the Siip app to coffees from their own boxes, April 22 to October 4, 2026.
  • Liked or loved. The two top answers to "How was this coffee?".
  • Why it stops at box four. Too few fifth-box coffees have been rated so far to read. The early number is 76%. We will update this post when there are more.
  • The same people, box after box. Some of the rise comes from people who did not enjoy their first box and left. So we also looked only at subscribers who rated coffees in each of their first three boxes. Their average rating went from 3.51 to 3.61 to 3.84 out of 5.
  • One subscriber at a time. Of subscribers with three or more box ratings, about two in three trend up and fewer than one in three trend down.

This is what subscribers told us, not a controlled experiment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Siip subscription get better over time?

How does Siip pick my coffee?
You start with a 60-second quiz about the roasts and flavors you like. After that, every coffee you rate in the Siip app updates your taste profile, including coffees that did not come from Siip, and the next box is picked from it.
What makes Siip different from other coffee subscriptions?
Siip learns from every coffee you rate, not only the bags it ships you. Every pick comes with a match score and the reason for it, and the coffee comes from 29 independent roasters in their own bags.
How much does a Siip subscription cost?
$18, $24 or $30 a bag, depending on the tier, with two bags every 4 weeks and free shipping. New subscribers get 20% off their first 2 months.
Can I skip, pause or cancel?
Yes, anytime, in a few taps in the Siip app. There is no minimum term.
Where does Siip ship?
The subscription ships within the United States. The free Siip app works everywhere.
