Welcome to Equator Coffees

“Good Coffee. Kind People. Better Planet”

For nearly thirty years, Equator Coffees has been proving a simple idea: when coffee is sourced thoughtfully, roasted with care, and built on strong relationships, good things happen.

The Equator Story

In 1995, Helen Russell and Brooke McDonnell, partners in both life and business, started roasting coffee in a garage in Marin County with an ambitious vision: build a company where quality, sustainability, and social responsibility were inseparable.

As they traveled to coffee-growing regions and developed relationships with producers, they saw firsthand how sourcing decisions influence livelihoods, farming practices, and communities. Those experiences shaped the values that continue to guide Equator today.

Equator became an early adopter of Fair Trade certification in 1999 and, in 2011, became the first Certified B Corporation coffee roaster in California. While these milestones helped define the company's reputation, they were simply reflections of a philosophy that had existed from the beginning.

The mission was simple but visionary: good coffee should create good outcomes for everyone involved.

Thirty years later, Equator has grown from a humble roasting operation into one of the most respected coffee companies in the United States, with award-winning coffees, cafes across California, and a thriving business serving quality-focused restaurants, businesses, and coffee drinkers across the country.

Yet the mission remains unchanged:

Exceptional coffee, sourced with care and shared with intention.

Why We Love Equator

Equator represents the kind of company we hope more coffee drinkers discover.

Since the beginning, they've shown that exceptional coffee doesn't need to be exclusive or intimidating. Through thoughtful sourcing, inviting cafes, and coffees designed to delight both newcomers and longtime enthusiasts, they've helped countless people discover coffees that make them stop and say, “Wow.”

Those ideas resonate deeply with us at Siip. Equator has spent years making extraordinary coffee more welcoming and accessible while staying deeply committed to their values.

Together, we hope to help more people discover coffees they'll love, and feel good about the choices they're making along the way.

Because good coffee should be for everyone.

Equator Producers

When you drink an Equator coffee, you're stepping into a community with deep roots.

Equator has built relationships with its producers that span generations, many have been partners for decades. These relationships are built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to growing something meaningful together over time.

Imagine being welcomed to a table where people know one another well. Where stories have been shared before, and relationships have been strengthened over years, not months.

We believe that kind of care shows up in the cup. Not because long-standing partnerships change flavor directly, but because they create the conditions for better coffee. Producers can invest in quality, roasters can plan for the long term, and everyone involved has a reason to keep making things better.

Whether you're enjoying a cappuccino at an Equator cafe or brewing a bag at home, you're tasting the result of relationships cultivated with the same patience and care as the coffee itself.
